Ohne Kater is produced in Germany, using the Muskateller grape, a grape variety that is ideally suited to non-alcoholic wine because of its resilient nature.
The alcohol is gently removed from the wine using vacuum distillation technology at low pressure, which preserves the wine's aromas, flavour and structure. The result is a high quality, alcohol-free wine that retains its original characteristics.
Muskateller, or muscat, is a variety of grape that is traditionally used to make sweet wines in particular. However, this non-alcoholic white wine is an excellent example of how well suited this grape variety is to de-alcoholisation. The result is a dry and well-balanced alcohol-free white wine that stands up to its alcoholic counterparts, even in blind tests.
