Still buzzing in the glass - the first year alcohol-free has been full of discovery and courage

We were predicted to fail quickly, but now we are celebrating our 1st anniversary. Thank you for being part of creating a new wave of non-alcoholic culture!

A year ago, a shop opened on Fabianinkatu in Helsinki with a simple and bold idea: non-alcoholic wine can be tasty and of high quality. It can be an experience. It can be an option that doesn't require explanation or compromise.

Free Spirit was born out of a desire to challenge assumptions and build a modern era of non-alcoholic culture in Finland - and soon beyond its borders. Now, a year later, the question is no longer so much whether alcohol-free can be of high quality. The question is why anyone would settle for anything less.

The hunger for quality that changed the market

Finnish drinking habits have changed surprisingly quickly. Already 82% of adults drink alcohol-free in their daily lives, and more than a quarter identify themselves as completely alcohol-free. This is not a momentary trend, but a more permanent movement towards balance, well-being and new experiences - towards a new way of enjoying life.

With this change, customers are demanding more. They want drinks that suit adult tastes - not compromises or sweet alternatives. They want quality, clarity, elegance.

One year, two stores 

When the first store opened last November, it was both an experiment and a promise: to offer a place where non-alcohol is not a constraint but a new perspective. 

Soon, a different kind of audience began to pass through the door. Interest from hotels, top restaurants and drinks professionals grew rapidly, and Free Spirit became a place to watch and sense where non-alcoholic trends were heading. People come to us to literally smell the season's newness - curiosity is an essential part of the culture we are building.

When the opportunity to open a second store in Helsinki's Pohjoisesplanadi came up less than a year after the first opening, the decision was clear. The space allowed for more service experiences, tastings and space for quiet moments to focus on what's happening in the glass. The Esplanade store allowed us to create an unprecedented alcohol-free experience for the festive season.

Quality drinks are already spilling over the Finnish borders

In less than a year, our range has grown to become the largest collection of premium non-alcoholic wines in the EU. The online shop is used to order drinks from all over Europe. Customers also carry bottles from us in their suitcases across the oceans.

Now we are celebrating our first success - but above all the community that has grown up around us. Ten years ago, Finland may not have been ready for the idea of a non-alcoholic Christmas. Now it seems possible: at once traditional and fresh, a little lighter, a little brighter. Perhaps just the way we ourselves like to feel in the darkest months of the year.
